Clue 2 Finished

Finished clue 2 of SOTSii last night and photographed it today in natural light. This is my first KAL and I am loving it. I am making it in some cotton from Texere yarns and the stitch definition is great. Also did some more work on the cotton bedspread but no photos yet.

This afternoon I worked on some more debris clearing from the garden. Under all the rubbish I found several plants sprouting. I left some of the leaves and twigs around the plants to protect them a bit as it is forecast to get colder this weekend.

Back to work tomorrow which will come as a bit of a shock as I have had nearly two weeks leave. I will have to be up at 0500 and then work a 12 hour shift.

Short Break

This is where I stayed for a couple of days last week. We (my husband and I ! ) decided to leave the floods behind and have a couple of days away in Lynmouth. What we did not realise was that it was spring tides and the wind was behind them and so they were quite high. This property is on the sea front so we had to move our car.

This was the view from the living room and our bedroom which had a balcony. It was great waking up to the sound of the waves crashing over the pier. This empty harbour changed to this ......
We were also lucky to have moonlit nights and then this was the view.
I did spend a lot of time using my camera but I also walked each day and even found time for a little knitting. My friend came to stay with us so I was able to walk and explore with her. Reading about the disastrous flooding of 1952 made our flood seem not so bad. Houses were swept away in that flood and lives were lost.
We explored a little way up the river to Watersmeet and also walked to the Valley of the Rocks. There was so much to see but so little time so I think a re visit will be necessary !
Unfortunately the mess from our flood was still there when I got back and so today was a clear up day. SOTS ii clue is still waiting for me but as it was dry I had to work outside and make the most of the good weather.
Vegetable patch

Bottom of the garden.

At last, some knitting content. Another couple of finished objects. A BSJ from Elizabeth Zimmerman for our next door neighbours baby and a Cicular coat for me. I started this when I was working at the Summer Solstice ceremony last summer at Stonehenge so it is known as my "solstice coat" It was great fun to knit but even after a couple of attempts at the sleeves they are still not quite right. It does fit but I like the top of my sleeves to be a bit looser.
Well, that is about it for today as I really want to get on to clue two of SOTS ii. This time last week clue one was finished and photographed. I am well behind this week and I also have to work on a cotton bedspread that I am doing for a friend. News of that project next time.

Floods Gone!

The sun actually came out for a while this morning so I was able to get down to our "patch" and photograph the river where it should be. See the photos on 17 Jan to see where it was.

This is a picture of our log cabin, which is alongside the river. I usually have my spinning wheel down there but while there is a threat of flooding I have it in the house. This is where I sleep after finishing a night shift.

The swans came back to see us for their feed of wheat. They have been away during the flooding. They are completely free to come and go but nest in our garden and usually come for food once a day for the rest of the year.

There has been knitting! I managed to finish Clue 1 of Secret of the Stole ii on Saturday but wanted to take the photo outside so had to wait until this morning.

Also finished an alligator scarf from Morehouse Merino. This is scarf number 3 and I have one more on the needles.

As the weather has improved (slightly and probably briefly ) we have decided to go away for a couple of days so I will not be able to start Clue 2 until we get back. I am trying to decide what to take with me. I have a BSJ (Elizabeth Zimmerman) to finish, the scarf, a cotton bedspread and about 4 pairs of socks. I will probably finish the jacket this evening, take the scarf to knit in the car and take the bedspread to knit at the cottage. It is on the sea front at Lynmouth so will sit and watch the sea.

Time to go food shopping for the break, then pack, do some training (trying to lose the winter pounds) and hopefully still have time to knit!

Finished!

Well, today the floods have gone
(for a while anyway)
so I was able to finish this
pie shawl before the first
clue for the secret of the stole ii.

This is it on the floor last night before I finished the border

This photo shows it finished but not blocked.

Finally we have it blocking. I did not want to block it severely as I want it to retain some springiness. It still needs some adjustment but I am very pleased with it. I used Elizabeth Zimmermans Pie shawl instructions and used wool from the Wensleydale Wool Shop. (I am new to this blogging and have not yet discovered how to do links. )

Now just waiting for the first clue!

More Floods

The floods came back again so I have had little time for knitting as I have been moving plants and logs from the garden. I have managed to finish my swatch for the secret of the stoleii before the first clue. I am being different and knitting mine in 4 ply cotton from Texere.

I have also been working on my pie shawl from Elizabeth Zimmerman. I am doing a sideways border now and at the moment it looks like nothing on earth! Hopefully when off the needles and blocked it will look OK.

Floods

Not much knitting content today as I have been trying to clear up the garden and greenhouses after the floods. I did manage to nearly complete my swatch for the new Secret of the Stole II that is about to start. I am working a night shift tonight so I had a bit of a lie in and that is when I did my swatching. Will get around to some photos and post them tomorrow.

New blog

This is my first attempt at blogging. The picture shows a bedspread that I finally finished at the end of last year. I have umpteen UFO s and my aim this year is to finish some of them!
