Busy Day

This is a pile of my 'work socks' which have just been washed. I wear these socks with my uniform on the ambulance much to the amusement of my patients. I am not sure that management are all that keen though!. I tend to knit 4x1 rib in fairly thick wool as I wear boots for work.

This is what I saw when I went across the road outside my house. I rather think this road might be closed soon due to road works.

And this is what I saw when I walked down my garden - or tried to walk down! It is the remains of my son's tree house which he built in our neighbours garden with their son when they were both about 6. They are now 23 and are moving into a house together in London at the weekend. The apple tree that it was built in had some dead branches so we (my husband and me!) pruned the tree and pulled down the tree house. The pile is now reduced to small pieces ready to go in the log burner this winter.
A finshed (or 2 finished) object! These are Viking Socks from http://www.lykkeogloekker.blogspot.com/ knitted in bright orange wool that I got from Natalie at The Yarn Yard. http://theyarnyard.co.uk/In real life they are much brighter than this and I love them. I can now cast on a new pair as I promised myself that I would finish these first. Work tomorrow so need to cast on tonight and get them set up so I can work on them in my down time tomorrow.

Sunny Afternoon

Finished a night shift this morning and had a sleep and then sat in the sun this afternoon doing some knitting. Made some progress on my Viking Socks. The colour is not accurate as the sun was very bright.

Have spent some time this summer trying to master spinning. These are some of my first attempts. The natural colours are spun straight from a fleece and the multi coloured was pre- prepared. I am not very happy with these skeins but I am improving and I am going on a course in November to get some help. I would love to be able to spin wool to knit socks. One day perhaps ?!

This is another of the characters that I met on Friday. I was wearing a black tee shirt which is the colour some of the keepers wear and he thought I was going to feed him. He ran over to see me but I had to disappoint him.

Autumn

I have come to the conclusion that I am an Autumn/winter blogger only. In the summer I spend too much time outside and just do not have time to blog. I have continued to knit, have some finished items but far more started ones! We bought a camper van in the spring so every time I have had a few days off we have 'gone away'! I always take knitting and sewing, some for travelling time and some for 'on scene' time.

Yesterday was a beautiful day (for a change) so we took my mum out for the day. We went to the Cotswold Wildlife Park and this little chap was the first resident that we met.

His pool was being cleaned out so he was wandering around the edge. A very noticeable feature of this park is the minimal fencing enabling good views of everything.

I don't think this owl thought much of my flash which accidently went off.

The gardens were all beautiful. Very exotic and making me very jealous. I am unable to winter many plants in my garden because it often floods.

Now some knitting content. A very poor photo because these were blocking on a multi coloured towel. These are some doilies that I made for a friends birthday. I never know what to get her but she does appreciate hand made gifts. The one with beads on is to put on her milk jug on the table to stop bugs getting in.

These are the start of my Viking Socks which are the September KAL of the Sockamaniac Group. I have got to the heel now, but have gone back to magic loop as I was not sure how to turn the heel of 2 at once. The wool is gorgeous. I got it from Natalie at The Yarn Yard. ( Will learn how to link soon I hope ) I f you have time, visit her shop and blog. Amazing wools and fibres, all hand dyed. Not a good site if you have stash problems ! - I have two more lots to knit up yet and as I belong to 2 of her monthly clubs, more arriving soon.

Must now go and freeze beans - I have a glut of them which I picked when I was sorting out the jungle which used to be a vegetable garden. Night shift tonight and out for lunch tomorrow so not a lot of time for much knitting!
